21 years into performing on some of the biggest stages in the country with the Trey Anastasio Band, Jennifer Hartswick has always shined in her role as trumpeter and vocalist. The versatile musician drips with charm, confidence, and natural musical talent that has radiated a phenom quality that has earned her a large fan base. Hartswick’s breakthrough to acclaimed solo star has been in the works for years, and her new album Something in the Water (due out 9/9/22), proves her rhythmic musical aspirations are the real deal.

Reprising her studio collaboration with renowned bassist and dear friend Christian McBride, Hartswick interprets nine new tracks comprised of original repertoire and fresh arrangements of familiar songs alongside her core ensemble and featured guests. Co-written with guitarist and album producer Nick CassarinoSomething in the Water presents a tender portrait of the human condition, brimming with humor and vulnerability. “We wanted to celebrate the human experience,” says the Nashville-based artist. “We wanted to write about all facets of love and life and loss and gain. There’s definitely an arc of someone’s life in this album.”

Glide is premiering the robust Mardi Gras flavored “By The River,” (song and lyric video below) which flaunts Hartswick’s strengths not only as a dedicated musician, but also as a composer, encompassing her vast backgrounds of Jazz, Blues & R&B. Reflecting the festive sounds of Dr. John, Jon Batiste, and Irma Thomas; this winner surely deserves to be heard on one of the early afternoon stages at the next NOLA Jazz Fest.

“I wrote By The River as a celebration of childhood.  A celebration of the spirit of wonderment.  I used to go out to the river and forests behind my house and sing Anita Baker songs as loud as I could! That’s where I cultivated who I would become,” says Hartswick.
